Admission Procedure for Sainik Schools

The admission to Sainik Schools is confined to boys only. The intake takes place in class 6th and 9th. The admission is provided on the basis of merit calculated by overall marks obtained in the written examination, interview, and medical examination of the student.

The application process starts in the month of October and the Sainik School entrance exam is conducted on the first Sunday of January each year at various different centers all over the country.

Eligibility & Reservation for Sainik School Entrance Exam

The boys seeking admission to class 6th must be 10 to 11 years of age and for class 9th they must be 13 to 14 years of age as of July 1st of the year in which the admission is going to take place. It is important that the students have completed their previous class from a recognized school to seeking admission in Sainik Schools.

25% of the total seats are reserved for the wards of ex-serviceman and service personnel. 15% of the total seats are reserved for the SC (Scheduled Caste) candidates and 7.5% seats are reserved for ST (Scheduled Tribe) candidates.

Pattern of All India Sainik School Entrance Exam

The medium of the question paper is English but the students can write the paper in their preferred language. The question paper consists of two sections- paper 1 and paper 2.

For class 6th, there will be 125 questions from Mathematics, General Knowledge, Language, and Intelligence. The paper carries 300 marks.

For class 9th, the paper comprises 150 MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) from Mathematics, General Science, English, Intelligence, and Social Studies.

The first paper is of duration of two hours and the second paper is conducted in duration of 50 minutes.
